Wisdom 03:13
My grandpa was known by everyone around That he could fix or build anything With weathered rough hands, he’d start from the ground And construct every masterpiece Chorus: He said Take the tools that you’ve been given In your mind know the reason to everything that you create Everything that is once was a puzzling dilemma And wisdom comes to those who know to wait He gave his days to a company and almost every evening He spent in his shop beneath the stairs The walls were packed with jars of nuts and bolts from floor to ceiling And waste was something that he could not bear I was small and only ten the day I needed his assistance A tire on my bike was out of air This man who built a legacy of handcrafted persistence Knelt down to me and filled it up with care His hands shook as he turned the cap between his fingers No job to him was too high or low I watched and waited, quietly I contemplated His plaid shirt and white hair his halo and robe When I think about those days, they seem so far away How fondly I see those memories I’m sure he’s fixing up those mansions, with gold instead of branches And tells those saints the same he told to me.

Theres a memory I often think of From Long ago in the summertime We’d snap beans and can tomatoes And music filled our simple country life Chorus Every time I hear those songs I see her face And those cool summer evenings On the porch at my grandmothers place Her grey hair, and silver glasses Her sweet smile would brighten up your day Her little house and garden patches Felt so safe as she kept the old ways Blessed Assurance, Rock of Ages Where the Soul Never Dies The harmony with night time cicadas No sweeter sound could fill the skies Some thrones are gold and in stone castles Some wood and wicker chair Some medals worn on chests and shoulders Some stacked high in cellars with care

The Dance 03:23
A summer day, a moonlit night Will make things happen otherwise not might Will make you dance make you feel alright Sweet Peggy knew with her eyes so bright oh he wasn't what he said he’d be, oh he wasn't what he said he’d be. He said take my hand, dance with me please Just watch my feet they go 1, 2, 3 She said all I need is a bass and a fiddle You do yours and we’ll meet in the middle He wasn't what he said he’d be, oh he wasn't what he said he'd be He took her round all over town her pretty dress spun all around people said a better pair couldn't be found but a wandering soul wont ever touch ground oh he wasn't what he said he’d be, oh he wasn't what he said he'd be It wasn't long before he left men will do what they do best oh girl don't you cry over this mess go on and get your pretty dress oh he wasn't what he said he'd be, oh he wasn't what he said he'd be Do all your dancing before you get old so you know what to do if your heart grows cold when you care so deep that you lose your soul when your mind is tainted you can shine like gold We aren't what we’d say we’d be, no we aren't what we’d say we’d be. A summer day, a moonlit night Will make things happen otherwise not might Sweet Peggy knew with her eyes so bright She had another reason to smile tonight She wasn't what you thought she’d be, oh she wasn't what you thought she’d be

Don't make me lie to you Dont ask me questions you know the answer to I know we’ve got a lot to work through But Don't make me lie to you I’ve never seen that man before I didn't notice who just walked through that door I just said Hi and nothing more I’ve never seen that man before I know that our time together Has been stormy like the weather at sea But this ship that we’ve been sailing on It means the world to me Don't make me lie to you Dont ask me questions you know the answer to I know we’ve got a lot to work through But Don't make me lie to you I dont remember what he said That cold night when he left my bed He said he’d love me till the day we’re laid to rest I dont remember what he said I know that our time together Has been stormy like the weather at sea But this ship that we’ve been sailing on It means the world to me

Angel Fiddle 03:57
Out in the country in the fields there is A pretty little girl on her daddy’s knee Sitting on the porch in the summer shade Learning the fiddle going one, two, three He said play for your mother, play that she’s gone Play for the joy she brought everyone Play it once for the time we had And if you miss her won't you play it again She was a tiny thing the doctor said For the rest of her time she’s bound to bed But the baby is strong inside her womb Pretty and sweet like a fiddle tune The angel came too soon they say Like a pickup note at the end of a page And when she played it was for the last time For the lord giveth, and he taketh away Oh lord, oh lord let my baby know The power of music inside her soul Since I won't be here to dry her tears Take your arms around her with each note that she hears… Out in the country in the fields there is A pretty little girl on her daddy’s knee Sitting on the porch in the summer shade Learning the fiddle going one, two, three

about

This studio created album was the result of a singer/songwriter reaching out to a recording engineer with the challenge: “Hey, so, I’ve written these songs, can you help me find some musicians to play some parts?” Almost like magic, for each song that was pitched, an all star team was assembled and history was made. Jack Dunlap was recruited for mandolin as well as lead acoustic guitar on Wisdom and Summer Evenings. Malia Furtado graciously played fiddle on The Dance and Angel Fiddle. Cody Brown was brought in for percussion on The Dance, and Ozzy Strosnider was recruited for lap pedal steel guitar for Dont Make Me Lie To You. Jeremy Rodgers played his upright bass throughout the CD. Thanks so much to this amazing group of people for sharing their talents on this album!

This project went suspiciously well. It was a joy to grow these songs from the ground up and watch them bloom into what they are now. Each song was recorded in only one session with the musicians meeting in the morning and going over parts only for about an hour before the record button was pushed by Will Shenk...or mouse click, or whatever magic studio recording engineers do these days. Amazingly enough, the first song that was recorded,"Wisdom", actually won first place in the 2017 Chautauqua Creative Writing Contest Songwriting Category. It was mixed and mastered first so that it could be sent out as a bit of a demo. Could the future hold more success?

This album is meant to be listened to in the car on your way to work as you drink your coffee, on your weekly jog through the woods, in the background as you clean your house, cook your breakfast, or weed your garden. “Life isn’t a support system for art. It’s the other way around.” -Stephen King. I feel the times I've been most inspired by music is when I'm in the middle of doing something and a song comes on that stops me in my tracks. Maybe these songs will do the same for you!

Being fortunate enough to have the time and ability to pursue my hobby of songwriting is something I'm grateful for. I would love to collaborate with other songwriters and producers in the future. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to work on some songs together!

Thanks for your interest, and thanks for your support!

-Sandra
